    FAQ ~ Frequently Asked Questions

    Q
I made a copy on my photocopier and the hidden message did not appear.
    A
Most Document Security Papers incorporate "Hidden Message Technology." There are a number of patented methods used to accomplish this task. However due to changing copier technology, you may find that your document can be duplicated on some photo copiers without the words "UNAUTHORIZED COPY" or other hidden messages showing up on the copy. For this reason we advise purchasing document security paper that incorporates more than one security feature.
Remember, the reason document security paper is used is to "prevent accurate document duplication." A document printed on Security Paper that contains numerous security features, features such as "color change ink" for example, is virtually impossible to accurately duplicate using a standard or color copier, scanner or even a digital camera.
Security Paper is used to help prevent the unauthorized duplication of any document.
To secure a document, it is very important to use multiple security features.
A document that contains only one feature, a VOID background for example, may be duplicated on some photo copiers without the word VOID showing up on the copy.

    Q
Why is that some photo copiers show the void and others do not?
    Thanks, Matt
    A
The reason "Hidden Message Technology" works on some copies and not other is that the way the various patented processes for printing this technology work.
The words are hidden in the background.
Look at the background under a magnifying glass and you will see how the words are hidden.
When light in the copier hits the background, the change in the background around the hidden words, causes the words to appear. As copier technology has improved, in some copiers they look past the changes in the background.
For example, you can take a digital photo of the sheet and you will now have a copy without any of the hidden words showing. This is similar to the way digital copiers work.
It is the nature of the technology. This is the reason you need to have layer on layer security to truly protect a document ... just as they do with United States Currency, the Euro and other currencies around the world.

    Q
You say that there are numerous security features available to prevent accurate document duplication.
Can you describe some of these features ?
    A
There are two types of Security Features -- "Overt" and "Covert"
For detailed information on both type features. Click on our Document Security Feature Web Page

    Q
Is it possible to get document security paper with a custom "hidden message" such as "ILLEGAL COPY ?"
    A
A custom "hidden message" requires a custom production run.
We can manufacture a custom production run of as few as 5,000 sheets. However this is an expensive product to manufacture. To be cost effective, we recommend a production run of a minimum of 10,000 sheets or more. Please contact customer service to discuss your special requirements. They will prepare a special price quotation. E-Mail:CustomerService@4securitypaper.com

    Q
Are your papers available in WHITE instead of gray and blue?
    A
The reason "Hidden Message" technology works is because the message is actually hidden in the printed background. If you view the background under a magnifying glass you will see the words as the dot and/or line pattern changes. Thus this technology requires a printed colored background to hide the message. For this reason it is not possible to hide a message on a "white" sheet of paper.

A message can be hidden in the paper's watermark. However this message is only visible when viewing the sheet as it is held up to a light source. This is an excellent feature that is used to identify an original sheet from a copy. Watermark technology is a security feature that is incorporated into a number of our document security papers.

    Q
Please inform me if you know about a red paper that I can copy once from a photocopy machine and then is impossible to have a second copy of the original.
    A
When you photocopy red paper on a black and white copier, the copy usually is black. Thus you can not read any information on the copy. However if you copy red paper on a color copier, the copy is red and you can easily read any information that is on the paper.
Ten years ago, red paper was an excellent solution to preventing copied. Today, because of advances in technology, red paper does not have the ability to protect anything from being copied.

Unfortunately there is nothing in the world that can prevent a document from being copied. If such technology exists, it would be incorporated into printed money in every country in the world. Such technology would eliminate counterfeit money. It just doesn't exist! All we can do is insure that you cannot accurately duplicate a document so you can always tell the original from a duplicate.
